@Jordan2, Try going into Settings, under Wi-Fi, and be sure you enable the "Ask to Join Networks" feature. That way, your device will not automatically connect to a Wi-Fi network you haven't previously authorized -- it will ask for your permission.
Regarding the original question, there are some great ideas here -- I wanted to mention that the first thing I do when my Wi-Fi gets wiggy is to to into Settings and turn Wi-Fi off and then enable "Airplane Mode." Wait several seconds, then turn off "Airplane Mode" and enable Wi-Fi. Sometimes completely shutting the iPad down and then rebooting works, too.
@dooBdoo, I took your advice, now I'll see if it happens again.

Just wanted to share with all of you that I tried all the suggestions you gave. Nothing seemed to change the situation so I finally called Apple. The service person instructed me to go into my settings and do a reset. It worked - Glory!! I wouldn't have thought about contacting Apple or even knew how. Thanks again everyone!

If it’s working properly you should be able to choose which WiFi address to use. If it’s switching by itself; without your permission, call Apple Support. (800) 692-7753
or (800)MY APPLE
or (800) 6947756.

My Mac products will do that too. My guess is, they find a stronger signal and switch to a different unsecured network.
