I NEED YOUR ADVICE ON IPADS?

I am in a dilemma as to which Ipad to purchase. Are both Ipads relatively the same? Is it worth it purchasing the new one over the original? What is the difference of 16GB to 32? I would like to be able to use my Ipad anywhere. Are there any extras I should purchase from the get go? I would really appreciate your advice before I step into an area I am not familiar with and get talked into stuff I don't need. Of course, I am going to the Apple Store because of their help and warranty, right? Thanks
