Re: How to determine if I need to repair or purchase another tablet?

How long does say an iPad last?? The battery... etc? Just curious. I have one that is going on three years old and I use it every day for several hours. What kind of things happen when they go out or break down... can they be fixed? Is it worth it to fix them or better to just buy a new one?

Re: How to determine if I need to repair or purchase another tablet?

My first Kindle Fire HD is almost 2 1/2 years old and is working fine.

I would not put $150 in repairs on a two year old tablet. I would shop for a new one and I'd get a different brand.

On 1/27/2015 Southern Bee said: Wow... wonderful group and fast help.....thank you: Brii, jackthebear. I had researched battery kits but concerned about me doing it. A friend gave me info on a local computer shop to call today. Was also suggested to replace battery and have this for my emergency tablet and purchase another tablet. I was concerned about learning how to use another product.

Yes, I would not attempt to replace the battery myself just putting out the price of the kit. Not sure of the value of putting money into fixing the Galaxy and then buying another new tablet.

We have the original iPad, my iPad 2, my daughters iPad 2 which I think she bought used from Apple none of which has had any issues at all. I am very pro iPad and iPhone.

Extremely easy to use.

See how much it is to get this repaired at the local shop then decide, that is what I would do, and how much you want to spend.

Re: How to determine if I need to repair or purchase another tablet?

I have a 2-1/2-year-old Kindle and the original Ipad, both of which are working fine. I like the Kindle better for some things and the Ipad for others. They were both gifts, so I am just saying.

I like the compactness of the Ipad with the attached keyboard, but since I have poor vision, I like the Kindle for reading pleasure when in my recliner. My husband has a Galaxy Notes. It is not quite a year old but I will warn him. However, our son has a Galaxy tablet that is older, the reason my husband bought his, and he is quite pleased with his and technology is his business and not necessarily Samsung.

I wonder if someone is just trying to sell you something. Best Buy does seem to be in the pocket of Best Buy (or at least in my area).

I traded in an iPad2 last November that had been in constant daily use since its purchase, and the battery was still storing in the neighborhood of 6-7 hours per charge.

First mistake was going to BestBuy for advice. Being their Samsung rep means you are a sales rep who can spell their own name. One step above a Geeksquad member.

The 2 year statement is just to sucker you into buying a new tablet. Remember these are the same people that will tell someone their laptop or PC has so many viruses it's better to just buy a new one.

The battery on the Samsung G2 10.1 is a relatively easy process as the tablet opens simply and it's just removing a couple of screws and ribbons. Most replacement batteries come in kits with the tools and run around $60. There are a couple of detailed videos on Youtube and if your look around yu local area you can probably find a computer store that will do it for $20-$30 over the cost of the battery.

As far as Apple products go you are just as likely to have any of them fail as you will with any other brands. You will also find just as many complaints about their customer service.

Another poster mentioned it but you did not say whether or not you had tried using a different charging cable and/or wall adapter. A wire could have pulled loose in the cable or a fuse could be blown in the wall adapter. The cable from most phones would work if it fits the connection in your tablet. It is worth a try.

O/P you do not have to spend that much on a IPad if the one you have can not be fixed. I have a Toshiba tablet and it works wonderful and the tech service is great they speak perfect English and they are nice people to work with. I have a 2 year warranty on my tablet and I so far never had to use it. Pay 150 to send it out that is outrageous? I spend less on my tablet and for what I do on it I love it. Don't you have a warranty on your IPad?

Re: How to determine if I need to repair or purchase another tablet?

Technology advances so quickly ... I just upgrade to something new. But - I generally get more than two years from my devices.

My replacement rate is 3-4 years.
