Re: How To Find A Long Lost Relative

I tell you what I did to find someone. I couldn't find my friend on facebook because I hadn't seen her in years and couldn't remember her married name. Her maiden name didn't help at all.

I remembered her daughter's name, but her daughter was married and I didn't know her last name either.

I did remember my friend's uncles name, but didn't know how to spell it. The uncle was divorced.

So I went to his ex-wife's sister's facebook. She was on there! Of course her sister was her friend so I found the ex-wife. I then found the uncle because the exwife and him remained friends on facebook. I scrolled through his friends (600+ of them) and found the daughter's facebook.

I then messaged her about her mom.

An afternoon project!!!

My message went into an "other" box and if I wanted it in her regular box I had to pay. I don't know why. This is the only time this happened to me. I guess it is because we aren't friends. I tried to "friend" her, but she didn't accept because she doesn't know who I am. She was young when they moved away and I doubt she remembered me.

Oh well.....

With the popularity of social media, did you try Facebook & Twitter? Also Google her name..might pop up. It's free & available for anyone.

I agree, Facebook has become alot like Google. I recently found my daughter I had given up for adoption 43 yrs ago...from just typing in DOB & place of birth( had no name at all). That took me directly to adoption.com registery.Only name matched all my info, from there I went directly to FB, typed in her name & there was my daughter within 10 min of searching. This was my 1st attempt at searching for her!!!!!

Keep trying various search methods. You can locate almost anyone without paying.

That is cool. I hope it turned out good for you and her. I'd love to know what happened, but of course that is personal and if you don't want to share that's fine too.

I don't mind sharing!! I wanted to tell the world when I found her,lol... So far it has turned out great. We have not met in person yet. Alot of msg on FB. It has been very overwhelming & happy for both of us. I found her last June, but she missed all my msg until the 1st part of April. I went all that time thinking she had changed her mind...her profile on adoption registery said she was seeking medical info, but IF contact was welcome that was ok also. I "stalked" her FB pg fron June-April...even got to watch her wedding video there. It is so funny to see the resemblence of her & my son & G-daughter.

Re: How To Find A Long Lost Relative

We'll I'm happy to report I finally tracked down my mother's cousin! I got bits of info from various websites (thanks to all for the suggestions) and got her phone number and address. It helps to know the age of the person and where they live. I also tracked down her married daughter. My mother spoke to her cousin this morning. The reason she hadn't been in touch is she has had a rough time with her health and didn't want to worry my mother. They had a great conversation and will keep in touch. I made my 86 year old mother very happy reconnecting with her cousin! The other side of this is if you don't want to be found with the internet you probably will!

Re: How To Find A Long Lost Relative

How nice to read two truly happy stories here. Very pleased that the OP found that cousin her Mom was looking for.

But even happier for TX-Starlight who found her daughter. We have a relative who also found a daughter. A wonderful experience for all. Congratulations and many happy years together.
