2 days ago my computer was fine, then we had a storm and the power went off.  My computer was plugged in.  Today I open it and the button on top that opens my history of sites I've just gone on brings up nothing.  Then I see where a download shows up in it.  Not sure what happend but it must of been the power going off.  I've searched several sites and it seems that I can't find an answer.  My history does show when I go to setting, account, profile but not in the history box when I press the button in menu.  So it's in my computer but won't show up when I click the button.  The page shows up but no history on it.  After searching now my Downloads show up on the page.  So I have a double problem.  I never synced my computer but it does say it's synced and I tried to change that but it won't unsync.  When I turned on the computer the microsoft blue page showed up asking me to sync my computer with other devices and I just clicked on the later box.  Didn't do any upgrades so not sure what happened.  I do use the history button a lot to go back to certain sites.  Any suggestions to fix it?

You can probably go to "settings" and reinstate the "history" icon on your address line...

I use mine every half-hour to delete "searches".    Helps keep "junk mail" out of my inbox...

Did you try to reboot your device?

@kismet - I've never synced my various devices either and it annoys the he!! out of me when Microsoft tries to pre-empt my choices.

When those blue screens pop up after an update, I just hit the back arrow and it takes me back to the home screen.  I don't click on anything in them.

I have, however, discovered that MS oftens changes my account settings during an update.  I just go in and change them back!  I've never had a problem changing them, it's just irritating.

I don't need Microsoft babysitting me or decideding how I want my system set up.

I agree with the suggestion to turn your computer off and then back on.  You may have to wait for the system to restore things, as the hard shutdown likely corrupted some things.  I don't know what computer you're working on, but it should reboot okay, as long as you let it run to completion.

I did a reboot several times.  Nothing changed.  There is a message sometimes when I click on History and a photo of a code comes up mentioned syncing.  Can't get that out either.

Why don't you set up bookmarks or favorites within your browser?  Using history is temporary at best.

Re: History on Edge

[ Edited ]

To prevent this sort of thing from happening, and other issues due to power outages, consider buying a battery backup for your computer. Find one by searching for uninterrupted power supply (abbrev: UPS) and that will prevent power failure to your computer during storms or other times of power outages. UPS devices are sold by wattage and the more wattage the longer it can provide power to your device(s). I bought one that will keep my PC, router and phone powered up for 72 straight hours w/o electricity to my house. If you are interested, please ask me about it.

I do have bookmarks in my menu but sometimes I need to go back to a page and the history works well for me.  I'm using Edge, which I don't like, but can use Firefox.  I couldn't get Firefox for a long time so just went to Edge.  I have a lot of bookmarks and it totally confuses me the way different things show up.

Is the UPS the same as a power bank? My internet is coming in and out.  Just got my tv this afternoon and now the phone and internet were out.  It's been a long day.

I did take out the history button but it didn't make a difference.
