Hi all, I was wondering if anybody here could tell me how to shut down a PC that doesn't want to shut down. I was fixing my sons PC last night and was doing quite well. It worked fantastically, but then well it wont shut down. It is Windows 7 64 bit and the circle is going and there are no buttons or options to click on, nothing. Open to suggestions before I pull plug, thanks!!

Pull the plug is what I do. Turn off the power then turn it on again. It will reboot and take you to the sign-on screen.

I agree with cheesylady. I had to do that before even at work! Nothing bad happened from me doing it.

With my computers I have to hold down the power button till it shuts off. I never pull the plug on any powered computer. I do pull the power plug that goes into the computer when working on the inside of the computer, but I do not remove the power plug from the power outlet/surge protector just to shut it down.

Sometimes just bringing up the Windows Task Manager and going into:

Application Tab/Highlight the program you want to shut down and then hit the "End Task" button. That usually will shut down the program that may be causing the problem with the computer not wanting to shut down.

Windows 7/64 bit is what I am using. To get to Task Manager:

Ctrl-Alt-Delete buttons. I hold down Ctrl/Alt then hit delete. When the blue screen pops up choose "Start Task Manager".
