Help please with getting Windows Security update to install

My computer has repeatedly tried to install Windows security update KB2698365 without success. I've also gone to Microsoft's website and tried to install it via that route--again, no success. (In fact, when the site checks on what updates I need and this one comes up, it states that the download size of it is 0 KB, which I don't quite understand.) On checking my update history, the error code given for all of the numerous attempts is 0x80070003. I've made several phone calls to Microsoft, trying to get help. They refuse to give me any unless I pay $99, stating that support for Windows XP has ended. However, on their website, it says support continues for XP with SP3 (which I have) until April 8, 2014. I mentioned that little detail to them, but to no avail. I finally got one guy to, at least, offer to email me info about how to fix this problem myself. You can guess it--no email!

Would anyone know where I can go to try and find a solution to getting this particular update installed? I've tried to search on MS's website, but I'm not sure about what I should be looking for. I did find one thing on there related to the error code. It directs me to rename the Download folder and then try installing the update again. Before doing so, however, I wanted to see if anyone here could advise me on whether this would be the correct way to fix my problem, or if I should be doing something else. I hate that my computer may be vulnerable to attack without this update. Thanks for any help anyone can offer me.
