Help needed with windows live mail, please

I have a hotmail account, is that the same as Windows Live, Hotmail? I have now created a windows live email account, but when i sign in, it goes to hotmail. I have tried to get an answer, from windows help, but to no avail, I haven't. I thought hotmail was seperate, from windows live mail. I hope someone that uses windows live can help me!!{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}
