My conspiracy theory has been put to bed. MS will be marketing new computers in the summer that are only compatible with WIN 10. DANG! It was SUCH a good theory, too! (Not)
@HerRoyaLioness I'm happy for you having retired!❤️
@apple1964@HerRoyaLioness@Gokat@chickenbutt@Marp
I know I'm having conspiracy theories, but there is definitely something fishy going on with this forced update thing by MS!

It is not hacked, @LTT1. Please read my post back to you on the "FIX" thread. It sounds like you may be confused on how GWX works. Thanks.![]()

Yes, MS is continually attempting to download/install Win 10 without user permission now, @LTT1. The GWX app, when installed correctly, automatically will take care of it. I've had it on my laptops and netbook for several months without any problems so it is not hacked. When Updates are available you are notified in your notification area. Download/install them when you're ready. The GWX program will take care of blocking Win 10 from installing. HTH's![]()

Hey Lioness!
I was just thinking about you and hoping that things are going well!
Computer problems are just THE worst. It can be so frustrating. I have such a logical mind that as long as something makes sense I have a good chance of figuring it out. But computer stuff rarely makes sense so it can be so aggravating.
Best! ![]()

Hi cb!
Thanks for checking up with me. My computer is not being nice - web pages not loading at all or not completely, my email is being difficult to delete, I can usually only do one at a time otherwise I get an "unknown error" message. I can't find my history, things just aren't quite the same. It took me a while to get Google back as my home page - it just wouldn't accept it at first, so I tried different ways.
Yes it is unbelievably frustrating since I didn't ask for any of this. I'll manage though, I'm just glad to be rid of the 10. I would love to know more about how computers work, because they are fascinating to me, but things are always changing. I would like to take a class, now that I am retired (3 weeks!) but they would probably be obsolete by the time I got around to taking them!
I am very thankful for you guys here who do know what you are talking about and can help us out - it is much appreciated. ![]()
I see others are have some issues also, and I still have a hard time with Microsoft doing this, even if some ended up liking it. And to think I used to like Bill Gates, LOL!!

I just read over this thread to see what I might be able to glean in order to get you normalized back with Windows 7.
I see that you DID uninstall Windows 10 from the Start Menu.
You DID install the GWX Control Panel program after uninstalling Win 10 so you should be protected from this happening again. (Yay!)
You are still having problems with various areas of Windows 7.
Here's the first thing you need to do. You need to clean your computer using a tool. I use and recommend CC Cleaner (freebie available online by Googling, if you don't already use it.) Also, run the Register Cleaner in that same program. MS leaves behind files that you don't need/want and these processes will clear them. They slow down/gum up your computer so you should see a noticeable improvement.
With regard to all those Outlook Express duplicate emails...I did leave you a link in my prior post to you on how to delete all your inbox files in one swoop. You'd need to pre-save to folders any you want to keep, but it would certainly be faster. If you do choose to do that, I'd suggest you do it first and then do the CC Cleaner processes so you'll start with a cleaner slate.
I know this can all seem pretty confusing (certainly infuriating). It's not the computers. They're set up logically and very easy to understand. It's MS and all its layers of software in Windows that can get frustrating. I hope these tips are helpful for you and help get you back to speed.
I've been through this and know it's no picnic.
PS: I know there was much emphasis on your Update settings. The GWX Control Panel program you installed takes care of that as well.

Hi Gokat - I did run the CC cleaner and just now ran the Registry one. Thanks for that advice, by the way.
I also went to the link for erasing emails, but don't want to erase them all, I'm down to 2,000.
When I try to erase a bunch of them in my Delete file by pressing down the shift key and down arrow, I get the error message. Usually these are ones that have more than one message under the same heading. Then I have to go back and delete this individually. I peck away at them each day. I know it's crazy. I'm trying hard not to get myself upset by this, but it is hard. I may put those I want to keep in separate files and delte everything else - still a lot of work, but I should have done that to begin with.

Lol! I only WISH I couldn say I hadn't been through this, @HerRoyaLioness , but the same thing happened to me when I uninstalled Win 10!...minus the duplicates. I'm pretty organized with my emails so didn't need to save many to file and it felt so good to clean up that Inbox all at once!
You can thank MS for MAKING you catch up with your filing!![]()

Assuming that you're no longer receiving duplicates, you can decide how you want to handle what's left at your leisure. Sometimes ignore is a good thing to keep our sanity.
There is a program called dupeGURU which I downloaded from CNET and used for a like project awhile back (Checked it out at a few sources first). It will get rid of all the duplicates and make it easier to delete the remainder, if you want to go that route.
Aside from the time-consumption, which is no small thing, you've slayed the beast and are on your way back to normal. Don't be afraid to shout out, if I can help further.![]()

Lioness - Oh dear.
I 'm sorry you're still having problems with this. I'm sure glad that Gokat is here helping so much. I haven't had to deal with this horrible pain in the butt scenario, thank goodness, so I know little to nothing about getting out of it.
Oh a good note, however, CONGRATULATIONS on your retirement!! I wish you every happiness, lots of smiles, and peace. ![]()
(hopefully you'll get that peace when you have ironed out all the problems caused by Win10!! Fingers crossed)

LOL Gokat!!!!! Am I expecting too much from the computer world??!!!! Should I have to be expected to slay this dragon???
I don't know if I should laugh or cry sometimes. And right now I'm in no mood to thank MS for ANYTHING, even if it does make me be more organized. I have too many other issues to deal with right now other than having to fight with my computer. I feel like I'm married again, it never listens to me and doesn't do what I tell it to, lol! It is a never ending irritation in my life. If we had any other piece of equipment that had all these problems, we would throw it in the garbage.
Of course on the plus side it allows us to do and learn and be informed about so much and be connected to just about everything and everyone. And play games! I love my computer and my dream is to someday be a bonafied techy! A real nerd. I would wear the badge with honor.
Alas, there are a few bumps along the way, but thanks to helpful people like you, the road is made a little easier. Let's hope we always keep our sense of humor to keep us sane........
