Re: Have you replaced a sim card in your tracfone?

@glb613

I have a question, it's OT but related to this sort of...

Have you ever added a RAM memory module to a laptop or desktop? If you have could you recommend a brand?. TIAWoman Happy

I have many times but, new computers do not have easy to access to the memory slots.  In fact, some models you cannot open the case without damaging it.  To be safe, buy a device with the most memory you can afford.

I'm not glb613, but to answer your question, I've added memory to every desktop computer I've had. I've used both known brands (Kingston, Crucial, and others,) and no name generic sticks with good results. Name brand sites like Crucial will guide you to the right memory for your motherboard by either having you answer some questions or scanning your computer to find the right memory for it.

When I build a new computer I just follow the recommendations of the motherboard maker, but for an upgrade, I typically rely on several of the online memory sites to guide me and then shop for the best price on what they recommend. It's typically a fast and easy upgrade and you can't go too far wrong as long as you follow the online guides.

I'm kind of brand-neutral as I've never had an issue with any brand, even the generic sticks I'd bought at computer fairs back when there were computer fairs. Depending on the age of the computer you're looking to upgrade, you might find a vastly lower price buying used memory. Retailers tend to increase the price of older memory while the newer stuff sells for less. The used market often can supply you with older memory modules for much, much less than you'd pay retail. Many hobbyists upgrade their computers yearly and the old memory has to go and new memory replaces it.

Thank you so much! @glb613  @gardenman

It's my AIO desktop which needs more RAM. I already know how to open it up to get to the slots and I know the part number I need also. I just wanted to ask you techies what brand might be better to buy. I'm looking at Crucial's module...their price is good, too.

@SilleeMee

I have purchased memory from this company many times over the years for my Dell desktops

@Nuttmeg

Mine is HP. I called them to get the part number for my model. Then they wanted to sell me their module and the price was laughable...cost is 3X that of Crucial's.

A while back I was invited, by a major retailer, to participate in writing reviews of products I choose to receive at no cost to me. All I need to do is write a review. They gave me that HP and it has only 4G RAM but can be upgraded to 8G, max, which is plenty enough for me. Otherwise I would have purchased one with more RAM. Free is good and it's an excellent pc.
