As I've said. At Christmas time: Aldi's had a 7 inch tablet. Android/ Google play platform with expandable memory slot. Dual processor. Front and back cameras. Touch screen, etc. 2 year warranty. $99. No problems, and I use it a lot. If you only need a tablet for the internet/apps/eBooks/music, etc. this is a really good deal. I don't know why HH needs to spend so much if she doesn't need a complicated tablet.

Chromebooks are interesting and do fill the need for some folks. Here's an article about some of the limitations involved (the comments are worth reading, too):

Living Within Limitations: Trying And Failing To Get Along With Chrome OS

(link goes to: http://www.forbes.com/sites/ewanspence/2014/02/08/living-within-limitations-trying-and-failing-to-g...)

Regarding cloud computing, I'm still of the same opinion as Steve Wosniak (who certainly knows a lot more than I{#emotions_dlg.laugh}). We have a long way to go toward solid security, in my opinion.

Some things in this article are inaccurate - at least for my chromebook. For instance - i use hotmail for my e mail and that is not available on google or as an app - but MSN is and when I open MSN - there is the tab for my email. So i opened my e mail and saved it to the toolbar at the top of the page. The article says you can't do this but i did with no problem. So - don't believe everything you read on the net and just because someone writes an article does not mean he/she is an expert at anything.

I admit i miss my touchscreen but i will adjust. I'm an adult and I can make this small adjustment for the amount of money we saved, and I like using google chrome so it is worth giving up the touchscreen for me.

I've been contemplating one of these for use when I'm watching TV, etc... I don't want to spend hundreds & hundreds on something portable when I use my iMac for 98% of the stuff I do.

I'll be watching to see if you still love it a few months from now. Good luck, though. Since I want one of these, I hope you have excellent luck with it!!

OP, what is puzzling is your constant desire to brag about your purchases of "throw away" products. You get what you pay for, certainly very true with electronics. Spending an extra couple of hundred dollars for something that performs top notch not just today but several years down the road is what many consumers look for. It is an investment that saves time, money and there are no issues that cause large degrees of frustration. Personally, I don't know anyone in my work or personal life that would send a crummy, cheap tablet out for repairs. That's just crazy. Saavy consumers do their research, research reviews, performance quality and look for a whole slew of variables before buying. As for buying what you did, ie the "display" item...you don't know what that item has endured physically, the hardware and even though reset to factory settings...who knows what may be lurking within. As far as an iPad or any other high quality electronic device, don't know at all what you mean "much of what it does I would never use". Its a device that is built to last years, has a stellar reputation, top of the line customer service and more than pays for itself in a hundred different ways. For a great many of us that is all very important. To have things we can depend on in your lives.

It is a bit heavier than my tablet but still easy to hold on my lap. I spend most of my computing time in a large overstuffed chair in my living room and the computer on the arm of the chair. I am the person the term laptop was invented for.

. I was steered away from Chrome books by clerk at office depot! If I could find one with touchscreen I would buy. Ideally touchscreen & keyboard r 4 me.
