Run > services.msc, then right click on whatever service you need and click Properties.
If you want to know which services are safe to disable or set to manual on Vista, check out Black Viper's website. He's been providing reliable information about services on all Windows OSes for years now. I found out about his website from a Computer Security forum that I belong to, and I've used his site as a reference site since WinME days.

Thank you. I will check this out. I don't know what search indexing is btw.
IMO, You need to consider buying a new computer. The problems you are having with Vista Windows will not go away. If you disable the wrong item from Window Services, Your computer will not work.

That's not true. You can format then reinstall the operating system and it will work like new. That doesn't mean it will be a great computer. Any computer running Vista has to be old and slow. Just like anyone using a Windows XP computer, the OP needs to buy a new computer because Vista is at the end of its lifespan and the computer is old.

Yea, yea. It can be done. Would you do it? The Window updates would be a lot. I believe Vista had service pack 1 and 2.
Messing around with Window registry through Window Services will stop your computer.
