Getting into computer?

I have a password on my computer. Sometimes my computer has as problem and the sign in page won't come up. My worst fear is that this will happen permanently and I won't be able to get online. I had a problem without a password in the past and have always been able to get online and try to fix something.

Is there anyway to bypass the password if the sign in page doesn't come on? Have Vista.
