Garmin Map Updates FRUSTRATING

Yipes I've tried for two day to update maps on my Garmin from QVC. I have life-time maps and I updated plugins and tried to update the so-called Garmin Express and it won't install. The plug-in installs by the Express won't.

So I call Garmin and the tech places me on hold to have a Mac specialist help. I sit there for five minutes and the music stops. It obviously dropped the call. So I call back and get into Garmin and once again the call drops. Support at Garmin is not great. I will say that the "oh so easy talk about updating your maps" is not true.

The first time we found you can't use Firefox, it has to be Safari. I'm sure PC users have issues as well. I'm going out-of-state at the end of the month and wanted new maps so I didn't get lost. Well so much for that.

Anyone else having problems with Garmin updates?

Re: Garmin Map Updates FRUSTRATING

So glad I found this thread. I have been trying to downlad maps for days I have a Mac Safari and I can't get the Install Communicator plugin to work. It just won't do it. I  have called Garmin they told me what to do and I still can't get pass this area. So I emailed them and the same t hink happens. If I can't download any maps than this Garmin is uselss to me and I will be asking for my money back.

Re: Garmin Map Updates FRUSTRATING

Here was my experience. The maps are so big now some of the older models can't handle all the data. You can do a partial update, just east coast or just west coast. I had life time maps as well.

I ended up buying a new Garmin and it is able to handle all of them. Good luck. LM

Do  you have to have an SD card for it to work?

Re: Garmin Map Updates FRUSTRATING

No, I never had an SD card. I actually had no trouble getting assistance from Garmin and they were very helpful. I am in Canada so it may be easier from here. HTH.
