Why do you need your phone to communicate with your doctors?  I use my desktop computer for all of my needs.  That includes communicating with my health care providers, pay bills, buy items and the list goes on.  If you have vision problems, I have vision loss, why use something as small as a phone?  I have an 27" iMac which shows the texts I get on my phone.  I can answer the text directly from my computer plus access the Patient portal to do a variety of things concerning my health care.  I'm sure you can set up a Windows computer to do the same.

When you open the Messages app there's a photo or avatar on the right hand side in a circle that represents you. Tap that and a pop-up menu should appear. It'll have Your Profile, Archive, Spam & blocked, Mark all as read, Device pairing, Your data in Messages, Messages settings, and Help and feedback. Help and feedback might have an answer for you. Or maybe Messages settings.

@gardenman : I don't see anything that you mentioned.

Should I delete my message app and install something different?

@SouthernBee - Did you accidentally set your text service to "Voice typing" (or something like that)?

I did that once on my Motorola and the keyboard disappeared!  Took me a minute or two to figure it out.  Not sure what you'd check on your Samsung, but I'd try that before I did a factory reset.

Mine wouldn't let me type or send until I set it back to normal texting mode.

@Venezia : I don't think so. The keyboard is still on the text message but can't type.

I was trying to take photos of my message app and draw black on each name to post here but having so many problems.

I don't  think you can delete the Messages app. At least not on my phone. You can always try installing a different texting app that might work.
