GPS 'attachment' mechanism??

Just back from a trip, and do like my Garmin, HOWEVER, about each half hour it would pop off the windshield, grrrrr. It's about 4 years old. Is there a 'trick' or some great home made solution or cleaner that would correct my problem? Haven't tried that cushion on which to set it,,,,could I possibly DUCT TAPE it to that??? It's really annoying and it scares the heck out of me and my dog while traveling and it plunks off the windshield. Any suggestions would be so very greatly appreciated. TIA
