First off i am not good with a computer so please forgive my questions if they are confusing. My computer tech put windows 10 on my computer a few years ago. He had put Bitdefinder on it and it has worked fine until yesterday. I called Bitdefender and they helped me uninstall and reinstall.Still isn't working. It is like it is frozen so i have decided if i do not hear back from Bitdefender today i am going to get rid of it. They said they would e-mail me yesterday. Heard nothing. My question is does windows 10 have a anti virus scanner or do i need to find another free one? And which free one is good? Thanks in advance

Windows has virus and threat protection called Defender. If you are using any other type of protection then Defender should be disabled so it doesn't conflict with whatever else you're using.

You can disable Defender by typing Defender in the search box, lower left screen, go to Virus & Threat Protection and disable it there. Then try to enable your Bitdefender after that.

If you just want to use Defender then make sure it's active by going to the Defender options section found under Virus & Threat Protection.

@plc123 @Yes, Windows 10 has DEFENDER. It's free.  You must use DEFENDER with Windows preferred browser EDGE set up as your default browser in your settings. If you have been using Bitefinder, your current browser must not be Edge, be use Edge is incompatible with Bitefinder. You'll need to uninstall Bitdefender before you can use EDGE and WINDOWS DEFENDER together.

Windows is going to poof its previous browser EXPLORER in a couple of months, so if that is your current default browser, INMHO, you might as well get rid of it anyways, but you can ask about this.

@SilleeMee @Do you think she has to remove Bitedefender before she can switch to the Edge browser and Defender?

No, I don't think so b/c it's sounds like the Bitdefender is not enabled and if it was then Windows would alert the user if Defender was turned on while Bitdefender was active.

@spent2much

Window Defender is not a strong enough for me. I would suggest Malwarebytes as a Scanner.

@plc123

I am a old school tech person. I always use an uninstall tool to remove an anti-virus program.

You can find one with a Google search "How to uninstall Bitdefender".

You will find instructions on the company site.

At the bottom will be a link to the removal tool.

I sometimes run the tool twice.

I would read about Microsoft Edge and work on it another day.
