For smaller handheld devices

like the ipad, etc. do you use the electronic keyboard and if so is a stylus always needed? Can't really type with your fingers or can you?

I'd like to get some kind of smaller device, was actually looking at the microsoft surface rt tablet. It has an external keyboard of course at another $119.00.

I learned to type on a typewriter and am used to having a keyboard on computers.
