Thanks. I was just wanting to use it to go on the net. Is it slow ?

Does (silk) it come with the tablet with no app needed (fee)?

It is slow. Yes, silk comes with it. There is no fee.

I had a first generation Fire Tablet and I now have the 10" one and they're fine. Mine is not slow at all and the only ad is on the initial startup screen. Once you unlock the tablet the ad is gone. You just swipe up from the bottom and the ad disappears. It's as fast as my computer or smartphone (probably faster than my smartphone) and web browsing on it is a breeze. I highly recommend them.

Perhaps my swiping up wasn't a precise as yours because I found it a pain to get rid of the startup ad.  Good thing we have choices.

ITA.  My kids have them and I've tried one but the battery was horrible.  I found my Surface or a Samsung tablet much better quality.

There's a lock icon on the bottom in the middle. You simply put your finger on it, swipe upwards, and the tablet's unlocked. It's easy-peasy.

I have also had the Kindles from the 1st generation to the Fire 10 and there is not anything "cheap" about them!

They will do everything my desktop computer can do.  Some software won't work on a tablet, but that is not the tablet's short coming, it's the software company.

You can even email to a wireless printer.

If your tablet is slow, you must not be getting a good Wi-Fi signal.

I too do not notice slow speed  with 8" Fire.  I do like mine alot, terrific for ebooks and the cover that turns off the tablet when it is closed is a must have.  The ads do not annoy me as much as I thought they would.  Too bad Kindles are not 8 incches, much like a paperback book.  I don't like Kindles' small size.  Fire is great for ebooks!!

The basic 7" IS slow. It only has a single antenna.

OTOH, the 8" and 1 0" are fast with great screens and dual antennas
