Our picture quality is fine with Hulu Live - I haven't noticed any difference. We also can dvr.

I have Xfinity and although I don't like paying the high bill each month I channel surf a lot and DVR practically everything so streaming would not be an option for me.

I have an antenna on one TV and a Roku device on another. It's wonderful to pay nothing - i.e. zero! - for television.

Smart move, I cut cable about 10 yrs ago....you will love it and wonder why you did not do it sooner....now have fun without the heavy cost!

Cut my Dish cord a couple months ago and haven't regretted it.
Hulu has been working out good for us, and I copy most of the shows we watch.
An antenna is not an option for us since we live over a 100 miles from a major city,
but I get all the local channels from Hulu plus a couple of favorite channels that I
I wasn't getting from Dish, unless I went to a higher price package.
Don't get QVC, but I'm not missing it.

You DVR, what do you use as a recorder? I am assuming you have purchased your own DVR or Tivo. If so, describe exactly what types of cables you use to connect Outputs to Inputs to Outputs. From Hulu to recorder to TV. Interested in exactly the way you did this.
Also wondering if you were able to direct the optical audio output to say a sound bar or Surround sound receiver. Or are use using composite/component or coax to route the digital and/or analog sound?
I'm a video/audio purist that prefers strictly at least 5 channel audio. I have 2 receivers that produce discrete as opposed to synthesized mono broadcasts, 7 channels and up to 9 speakers with 2 subs for the real low decibel ranges.
Thanks for your info,

@SilleeMee wrote:I guess I'm in the minority here. I enjoy having Directv with the convenience of having a dvr and easy-to-use program guide. I didn't by a 4K big screen to watch streaming. For me there is no comparison to satellite when it comes to picture quality. I'm willing to pay extra for that alone.
I was initially concerned about picture quality but with these hdtvs, my picture is crystal clear. Now, my biggest tv is 45” and no one watches enough tv here to warrant anything larger. I dont even know what a 4k tv is!! Everyone’s enjoyment is different and good for you that you can continue to enjoy!

Hi @hckynut . My husband is the electronics person in our family so I will ask him when he gets home from work tonight and get back to you...

Thanks for your response. I look forward to seeing what kind of setup your husband put together. Always like to learn when it comes to this topic.

You might want to check out a TV tuner like the Mediasonic Homeworx. It combines a digital tuner with DVR functionality with a user supplied external hard drive of up to 2 tb. It costs about $30. It has an HDMI output. They're pretty neat little gadgets. A lot of companies are making them these days for the $20-$100+ price range.
