Has anyone removed McCaffee from their computer?

I don’t want to renew my McCaffee antivirus software for my Windows based laptop. I want to remove the program before my annual renewal comes up. I have not used my laptop in months and it hasn’t been updated during this time. How do I get the McCaffee antivirus program off?

First it's McAfee.  If you want to cancell your subscription, go to the website and see what you need to do.  You can't simply uninstall or remove the program from your computer and think it's going to cancel your subscription.

I use removal software from McAfee's site. I download this tool to a folder or my desktop. This tool will clean better than  a regular uninstall.

Re: Has anyone removed McCaffee from their computer?

1) Log in to your McAfee account and ensure that you have turned off any auto-renewal that may be set up on your credit card. If you did not pay for the McAfee product that is on your device (i.e.: it came preinstalled) AND you never gave credit card or any other payment information to McAfee or any other company for your security product, then it should simply expire at the end of the service term.

2) Go to this website and follow all pertinent instructions, including downloading and using the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool: McAfee Removal Instructions. Don't forget to reboot after uninstalling.

3) If you are PC proficient, use Revo Uninstaller's free version to further clean anything named McAfee off of your system. Do not delete anything out of your registry or out of your files that Revo pulls up in its final scan for you unless the word McAfee is in each line that you delete. Take the time to read through each line and check them off individually if any results show up after you follow the previous McAfee Removal instructions from my step 2 above.

Have fun!

The post disappeared when I was editing it. There was a second post in which I fixed the spelling. That post was removed as a duplicate. I know the removal won’t cancel my subscription. I just need advice about removal.

A big thank you. Unfortunately, I have auto renew, so I’ll be cancelling. Great advice.

I was able to remove it... I have not worked on a windows device in several years as I have changed to Chrome books. I believe as memory serves me you do have a setting to remove Mcafee as i have installed my Norton anti virus at the time. I had no trouble and I did not have to pay any subscription costs. I remember it gave me a option to remove it if I wanted to. I remember it was for 90 days, anyway there is a way to do it. I went into the setting and found the option. You do have to make sure your windows computer will work with another virus protection such as Norton.

@Mindy D  If you still have trouble just call their customer service number and talk to someone there.  I had a question for them and they were extremely helpful and knowledgable. I know it is rare these days, but that is one company that knows how to help their customers over the phone.
