Samsung tv: Model #LN40a650
Message on screen - check fan no.1
I googled this and found this response on amazon.com. My question is " Has anyone here done this, and do you think I, as one who has never opened a tv, can do it without electrocuting myself?"
I. unplugged the TV, disconnected all my peripherals and I unscrewed and took off the back cover of the TV
2. Looking directly at the back of the TV there are two fans, a small one to the left, and a large one to the right.
3. I figured out that neither of these were fan no. 1 because they were spinning when I turned the TV on.
4. Just to test, I disconnected the small fan, and tried again and this time it said check "fan no. 1 & no. 2"
5. I reconnected fan no. 2 and looked for fan no. 1
6. After about 10 minutes I found it, (it was on the far right side of the TV behind a circuit board.
7. I unscrewed the circuit board and it slid right out giving me access to fan no. 1
8. I undid the four screws holding fan no.1 in place (I really only had to undo the bottom two, as the top two aren't attached to anything connected to the TV)
9. I followed the wire connecting fan no. 1 to its power supply and unhooked it and completely removed the fan.
10. I throughly cleaned out the fan with a dry wash cloth as it was covered in dust, and plugged it back into its original slot and used my remote to the turn the TV on from behind it.
11. fan no. 1 was spinning again, so I put it back in its original place, slid the circuit board back in. I turned the TV on again and saw there was no more "check fan no. 1" message so I just screwed everything back in and replaced the back cover.
12. TV fixed, no need to pay hundreds of dollars to a tech. I didn't even have to replace the fan, but I may end up getting another one just in case it does it again. Show Less
