Facebook ~ Cannot post pictures

Need advice. I am not a major user of Facebook. I thought I would try it and I wanted to post one picture of my kids (my little chihuahuas). Well I cannot do it. I have reduced the size of the photo. I am on Windows 7 using Chrome. The block with the X in it does not load, just sits there. And yes it is a jpeg file. Any advice. I even cleared and cleaned up cache Internet Explorer.
