I woke up the other morning with a full screen telling me that mhy computer had been locked because of illegal acts I had been performing. Not only was the screen full but an annoying voice kept saying your computer is locked because of illegal acts.
To unlock the computer, they wanted me to go to Walmart or some such place with a money machine and send them an envelope of money and the machine would be unlocked within one to four hours. Right.
I couldn't get to any of my protection because I couldn't use any of my icons. I have a friend at the university who read what to do to remove it and she came out and put my computer in safe move and removed stuff from the registry. I hadn't clicked any buttons so it was not embedded very far. She had Malbytes on a flash drive so we ran that. It ran and ran and ran and only found one thing which said fake ms whatever that is. The computer is clean now but how annoying. I had been doing a search for some knitting patterns and I don't know if that is where I picked it up or not.
I'm going to make sure I have protection that I can get to if something like this ever happens again.
