I am looking for in ear (earbuds) headphones to use while exercising. I am looking for very good sound and inline volume and forward/back controls that I can use without having to access my iPod. Any advice appreciated. TIA. LM

I use these earbuds with my smartphone. http://www.meelec.com/M_Duo_s/421.htm

I think you need this list, instead: http://www.cnet.com/topics/headphones/best-headphones/sports/

You want earbuds that won't pop out easily when you're active and that won't get ruined by sweat, as some earbuds can. Most of these have over-the-ear hooks or fins to help keep them in place, which I would recommend. You'll generally get better sound quality with more expensive earbuds, so if sound quality is important to you, I'd look in the $70-$150 range. If you don't mind your sound less robust, you can go with a less expensive pair that will still be fine. Once you get up to the $200 range, I just don't think the value is there, especially for earbuds and digital music.

I would look at Amazon and read reviews. I have used Sony, Sennhesier and the ones above.

Thanks for this info. Off to check it out.

I have Bose headphones (around $130) but they don't have inline controls so I don't use them outside while walking. I think I would like the noise canceling ones but not sure they are worth the $ @ 300+. LM

I'd avoid any that have the "tic-tacs" behind the earbud. These give better sound but they fit oddly in your ears, especially if your ears are small. I think a lot of these earbuds are designed by men, for men.

Panasonic makes the best-selling ones, and they get good reviews, and they are dirt cheap.

Campion, wow can't believe the price and the reviews for Panasonic. Next time I make an Amazon order, I will include these even if it were just for travel. Thanks for the heads up. LM

I note that there is no inline capability on these but, for the price, not a surprise. They get great reviews. LM
