In the you gotta be kidding me category, I came across a Pentax camera on QVC that sells for nearly 5 figures. Of course you can get it for 6 installments of $1628 to ease the pain. I don't think I'd spend over $200 for a camera. I was shocked and in utter disbelief.

I think it's cheaper on amazon.

$1628, is not "easy" pay by anyone's definition.

$8,314 on Amazon. I just looked. That's quite a price difference. I didn't look to see if you get extras from QVC. I still can't imagine spending that much on a camera. I'm assuming it is for professionals.

Ridiculous for the average picture-taker, such as myself. Clearly more for professionals and when it can be purchased for much less elsewhere.....{#emotions_dlg.bored}

You should get one and, while you're at it, get an extra one for your 'gift drawer'. Smiley Happy

I have a Nikon that cost 6k. If you are a pro, it's like being in construction and buying your own tools. It'll pay off in no time.

That's a cutting edge camera and you always pay more for the cutting edge. There are military grade sensors now that give resolutions of over a million megapixels that are expected to reach the pro/consumer market within a decade. The advantage of such a sensor is that a wide shot of a scene can be taken so nothing is missed and then after the image is captured the image can be cropped to capture the specific image desired.

If you're a wedding photographer and you only have two such cameras set up, one facing forward and one facing backwards covering all of those at the ceremony, you can get high quality photos of everything that happens at any instant. From that one enormous image file the photographer could zoom in and crop out how the mother of the bride, father of the bride, the bride herself, the best man, maid of honor, etc's were all reacting at once as if they had a camera trained on each one individually. Pretty much nothing would ever be missed in a photograph.

The problem with such a system is the enormity of the files. Most consumer digital cameras now have sensors in the fifteen megapixel range. A one million megapixel camera would result in a file nearly seven thousand times bigger. That's a lot of data to store and then process. but technology is constantly moving forward and in ten years time it may be routine.
