E166560 - HP DV7 blu-ray player

I purchased the HP DV7 17.3" Notebook 6GB RAM 640GB HD, blu-ray, 9-cell battery -- the TSV on Dec. 12, I think.

Has anyone had trouble playing a blu-ray movie? I previously have purchased only DVDs, so had to rent blu-ray movies to do a test. I cannot get either of them to play. When the intro to the movie comes up, and I press "play" at the bottom of the screen, nothing happens. I have tried using the touchpad, and also used a wireless mouse. I talked with HP tech support one time, and was told I had a defective movie.

One of the rental movies had a lot of advertisements of other movies that played automatically, so I know the blu-ray drive works. But when I want to continue on to the movie itself, it does not happen. I'm not very skilled with notebooks with lots of bells and whistles. Is there something I am not doing?
