I'm a techno-dunce.  Everyone is wearing these rhings.  I was wondering if you have to sync it up with a phone or a computer.  I'm only interested in using it for seeing my step count. Could not care less about how much I slept and that. Can you just use them for that?  I know if I tried messing with it and my laptop it woukd be futile. Those old timey ones hooked on the belt never work.

I have the Fitbit flex and I did have to download an App to see how many steps I take per day. Tracking my sleep was interesting at first but now I don't do that. I do like to be able to track my steps though. I don't know if some of the newer Fitbits show the numbers without an App.

I have the flex which requires an app. But I just use it to count steps, and active minutes. My friend has the newer one that counts steps and it displays on the band. It's cool but it's thicker and I like my thin band fit bit better.

First of all once it is set up the sycning  is done automatically.  IMO to get the most from the device you also need to see what you are eating vs. your activity, and the computer or phone app is perfect for that.

Set up is very simple, they don't show you on the Q, but it involves setting up an account with user/password, registering your device.  Adding the app to your phone or installing the little dongle usb to your computer.

then you check the dashboard during the day or the fitbit itself.  and it gives you the readout during the day

I have the Fitbit One that shows steps, distance and flights climbed along with the time.

I love it. I put it in my sock without the clip and it is very accurate.  If I'm not wearing socks, you can put the clip on and put it on your jeans pocket or in the middle of your bra.

One more thing, I have had the Flex (it quit charging after a year), the Charge HD (quit it 3 months, money refunded) and the One.  Even if the others hadn't quit, I like the One the best.  It is more versatile as to where you wear it.

I have the Flex.  I set it up with my smartphone and my computer.  It does not show on the wrist, you have to sync it.  No real problem here.  If you are feeling like you cannot do it yourself, call Fitbit.  Marvelous customer service.  They will walk you through it.

I got my hubby the Charge HR which shows on the wrist and also syncs to the phone and computer.  His is heavier, has more function but I still love mine more.
