Re: Do I Need An HDMI Cable For My DVD Player

He takes me to a room where they have the REALLY high end tvs, the cables there were $60 and $100! I said that I didn't want to spend that much and was told you didn't need expensive cables. He said those people don't know what they are talking about and if you want to have to replace them in 3 months, that's up to you. He then showed me some lesser priced cables. He showed me $10 ones and felt like he was mocking me. I ended buying a 2 pack of Dynex 6 foot cables which were $20 a piece but $35 for the 2 pack. I don't like feeling that I'm being taken advantage of by trying to sell me something more expensive when something lesser priced does the same job.

You were ripped off. A 2 pack of Dynex 6 foot HDMI cables on Amazon is only $7.00.

I actually had a $10 reward that I applied to my purchase so it only cost me $27 with tax. Maybe Dynex makes different grades of cables?

If you already have a DVD player, is it connected to your old TV? How? You might already have a cable.

Re: Do I Need An HDMI Cable For My DVD Player

Cabling has always been an area where retailers try to take advantage of unsuspecting consumers. There used to be $1000 speaker cables that were supposed to make a huge difference in the sound, but Stereo Review (an old magazine) tested them and most of the other "high end" stuff in double blind tests and found absolutely no difference in sound quality. Cheap cables, and very expensive cables typically sounded identical. When there was a difference in sound quality the better sound quality was typically the cheaper cables. As long as the tester and person being tested didn't know what they were listening to, they couldn't hear/see a difference. If they knew they were listening to a cheap 14 ga. copper cable in one setup and the $1000 cable on the other, then they'd claim they could hear a clear difference, but as long as they didn't know what they were listening to, they couldn't hear a difference.

You will always pay more in any store for an HDMI cable. Accessories (cables) make stores a lot of profit. I usually buy my cables from Monoprice.
