That doesn't sound excessive to me especially being a laptop. Everything in there is crammed so tightly it's not as easy as if it was a tower. If you're not keeping the laptops, can you not beat laptop yourself? A couple of years ago when I was tired of paying for landline we never used, I took it outside and beat it to smithereens with a hammer. My husband didn't want to get rid of the landline but we never used it. I gave it 6 months and not once did he pick up that phone. So after I killed it I waited a few more months to see if he would notice. He did not.

That's a risky thing to do, wiping the hard drive. There could still information to be accessed from that drive by the right person with the right skill set.

What's the fun in that? I loved seeing parts fly from stupid landline that was costing us $72 a month and we never used it.

@monicakm I already stated it did not contain any personal info. That was about 8 years ago and there have been no repercussions. Also I did it under instructions from an Apple adviser
