I've really enjoyed experimenting with my (almost) new iPad but today I found a new app that was most interesting....the police, fire department, sheriff and US Forest Service scanner for my community. Most people have heard that the West is burning, but the thing that strikes the most fear is a serious fire in the bosque in the Albuquerque area. The bosque is the heavily forrested area along the river (Rio Grande) which runs through the city. Well, today fire broke out in a small rural community just north of Albuquerque. In no time it literally grew to great proportions. The smoke obscured the mountains from my view. I spent the afternoon listening to the firefighters and helicopter pilots who were dropping water. There were so many fire departments involved that I think they pretty much knocked it down. The wind is supposed to increase overnight so they'll be on watch for hot spots all night. You might want to consider this app for emergencies.
