Asking for DH.....he's tech savvy, however, nothing he tried or Microsoft tried or help from youtube worked. Seems gone forever.
Just wondered if this has happened to anyone else. Lesson learned on backing up files!
TIA for any comments. ![]()

They're there somewhere. What was on the desktop was just a shortcut to them. What kind of files and where were they stored? Dumb question but has he tried "searching?" How about the recycle bin?

If the files were accidently deleted, check file explorer.

@qbetzforreal I will relay your message. Thanks.
@FranandZoe Yes, he has done all that first thing. Thanks to you also.

@kindred cats Does he have One Drive installed. That's like Apple's Cloud. All files automatically save there even when deleted

@qvcfreak He didn't activate the One Drive....rats!
If he did it now, do you think it would be able to find it since he was not the one who deleted the file?
thank you for your input....that was so smart. ![]()

Could the file or is it a FOLDER have mistakenly been put into an exisitng folder on the desk top? I am on a MAC so I don't know how other computers work..I have enough issues with my Mac Book, ha!
But every so often I lose a file or a folder and it 'somehow' got dropped inside another folder on my desktop or put into the trash. I am guessing you have no external back up.
I learned my lesson years ago - I have an external back up and it has saved me many times. I sure hope your hubby can find what he's looking for, it is very frustrating, I know!

@Mom2Dogs .......Thank you, that is a very good idea to check the other folders he has on his screen. He did, of course, check the Recycle Bin first thing.
I appreciate everyone's thoughtfulness. ![]()

@kindred cats Not sure if this is in any way helpful but if they were "accidently deleted" they would be in the recycle bin until you empty the recycle bin and permenantly delete them. Unless the laptop is set to empty the recycle bin after a certain amount of time. If you know that time perhaps you can restore the laptop to a previous date? I don't know what version of Windows you have but it is possible to google it and perhaps that might get you your missing files. Were these files or folders? What kind of documents? Excel? Word?

@eadu4 .........Thanks, it is a folder with multiple type docs in it.
I read your post to him and he has done it all. At present, he's now in the process of recreating that particular folder. ![]()
