DirecTV doesn't want any of my equipment back since it is 5 yrs old now that I am no longer their customer.. Can I give my 3 remotes to somone who HAS DirecTV for them to use? Will mine work with their boxes?

I saw identical replacement remotes at Wlamsrt for sale.

Direct TV Remotes are programmed for the TV they are using.  If the recipients can reprogram them, then yes, give they away.

Directv has upgraded the remote control devices. The older ones will still work with newer boxes but the newer RCs are much more user friendly.  The RCs can always be reprogrammed to work with any system. Just need to follow a few instructions found on their website.

We’ve had the newer remotes for about three years, but we still have the older remotes too.

The directv tech who came to our home told us that the older remotes are more versatile. He was right, the older remotes can be used to program your tv settings. This works for me because I lost the remote that came with our tv.

I've bought brand-new Direct TV remotes on eBay for as little as 2 for $12.  They don't have much value.
