Desktop, Laptop, iPad, tablet??????

Don't know what to do here....I have always had a Dell desktop...currently have one running Windows 7, so I guess it is about 5 years old. Have had tons of trouble with it for the last two months....pretty sure it is a virus or something. Ordered the Dell TSV 17" laptop and would really like to see some reviews of those who bought it. I have not even done any setup because I really can't afford both a laptop and an iPad. Pretty sure that I am going to keep the iPad, but have always wanted a laptop. I spent a lot of time on Facebook playing games and talking with friends. I like that I have the 23" monitor, but not sure how much longer I want to put up with the virus problems.

Guess what I would like help with is do I keep my desktop and just get it stripped back down to clearing everything out so that I can start all over or keep my beautiful purple laptop...can you tell I am in love with that color??? I also have a Samsung tablet that I use I use a lot when I am lounging on the couch and in the car.

Any comments or suggestions?? TIA

If you can't afford the laptop, you should probably send it back. I'd take the other computer to best buy and have the geek squad look at it. That will probably run you around $100.

Re: Desktop, Laptop, iPad, tablet??????

I understand your dilemma. Our desktop is also older and runs so slow. We have done about all we can with it to keep it usable; however.....it really is not effecient and on its way to becoming useless, so we had to make some decisions about how best to spend our money. I use my fairly new laptop at/for work so we now use it at home as needed for our "desktop." We also have Samsung tablets to use. These arrangements so far have worked well for us. Best wishes with whatever you decide!

Re: Desktop, Laptop, iPad, tablet??????

I'm very happy with my laptop & Kindle. I haven't used my desktop in a very long time, and would love to get rid of it since I doubt I'll ever want to use it again.

I think having your desktop looked at & fixed could easily cost a lot more than $100. JMO, but you could end up spending a lot of money to find out it will cost a lot more to fix it. So my feeling is Out with the Old, In with the New!

Of course it's personal preference, so you'll have to figure out what makes the most sense and what you really want to do.

Re: Desktop, Laptop, iPad, tablet??????

We have a desktop, laptop, and iPads. My preference for internet browsing is the desktop. It moves quickly, and the keyboard is easy to type on. The laptop is ok, but I'm a fast typist and it doesn't seem to be able to handle it well.

My iPad is great for portability, but surfing the web is slow. I love it for reading and games, but not for the internet.

If you're on the web a lot, I'd suggest keeping your laptop, especially since you already have a Samsung tablet.

Re: Desktop, Laptop, iPad, tablet??????

I have a dell laptop for $400 3 years ago from Walmart. LOVE IT. I just ordered a windows small laptop that is like a tablet also for traveling. I also have a Samsung Galaxy tablet, but really prefer a laptop, doing any type of business, i need a keyboard and a windows platform to log on to my network server for work. I rarely use the tablet. I now have a Samsung Note 4 phone and it so big and easy for me to respond to customer emails!

Haven't had a desktop in years and do not miss it at all. Love my laptop and Kindle Fire HDX with keyboard. Use my laptop more than my Kindle at home. But love both and would never consider getting a desktop ever again!

Re: Desktop, Laptop, iPad, tablet??????

I have a two year old Dell desktop with Windows7 that runs pretty well. I use it mostly for my business and it's fast and so easy for me to see the large screen.

I also have a two year old 11" MacbookAir. I walk around the house with it a lot and I like how portable and lightweight it is. When the weather is nice I like to sit out on the patio with it. I like that it has a regular full sized keyboard (I'm not fond of touch screens) and the screen is a good size for me with my poor vision. I find small screens difficult to see well.

My husband bought me an iPad mini for the holidays. It holds a charge for a very long time and though the screen is much larger than my phone, I find myself constantly enlarging the text on each new window. I got it mostly because I needed a new camera for my business and like that it will seamlessly integrate with the MacAir. I'm still learning how to do things with it.

Though I use both Apple and Windows I like being familiar with both and I find that each system has its pros and cons.

If I could only have one I would go with a smaller lightweight laptop. I like a screen that I can see and I can type so much faster on a real keyboard vs. a touch screen!
