With utube TV, do you keep the internet from comcast or just quit comcast altogether?

Yes, you need to keep the internet; all these streaming services won't work if you don't have internet access in your house.  But your internet provider doesn't have to be Comcast; it could be someone else if there are options in your area.

We can eliminate landlines (replaced by cell phones), and we can eliminate cable TV (replaced by streaming services), but internet access isn't going away anytime soon.

I just looked at Youtube TV for my zipcode and it showed a total of 9 channels, most of which are already available via antenna.

Thank you everyone.  I wrote down your answers and will explore my 4KHd TV this week before my appt. to see what I can do.  Again Thank you so much.

I will let you know what happens after my appt.

This forum has helped me a lot in the past also with my tracefone when I got a new one and was able with the suggestions here to transfer everything from old tracfone to new one.  Was so proud of myself, because I do keep up with technology as best I can.  I google a lot and go on utube a lot.

Never to old to learn or ask.

A side note from 1 of your posts.

So your son has worked for company 47 years, yet he has not helped you each time a contract has expired?

Were my mother still living, and with my knowledge of the wired and wireless world! There would be no way in he!! she would be negotiating with my long term employer. Tells me all I need to know about your son.

My mother died in 1969, my mother-in-law died in 2016. There were many times my mother-in-law had dealings with others, such as signing apartment contracts/dealing with management issues, and several other dealings with others choosing to use their advantageous positions to try to fool her.

Do you think I let them take advantage of her in their negotiating? Of course not, because that is exactly what they were trying to do. With my background of negotiating since I was a young teen! Why not put these people in a position that made them uncomfortable, which is what I chose to do.

I hope you get the answers to which direction you choose to go with you TV viewing. Take my comments about your son any way you wish. Would I have had my mother beyond only 29 years! ❤

Thsnk you John.  I have another good son, that always does what he can, but this one, sometime does, but most of the time I cannot get him to even visit.

I'm surprised he is going with me.  Will see when Sat.  comes.

I have fixed all my own computer problems or gone on the electronics here for advise.  I raised them all the same.

I don't understand it, I have always been there for him when he had problems.

I appreciate your comments.

I wish I were in a position to help you in person. There are so many our ages that are taken advantage of by so many. Many are out there to do exactly that.

My mother-in-law didn't always like the way I handled some of her problems. Yes, she thought "I should have been nicer", but!  From what she told me, they were anything, but nice, acting friendly, while at the same time, trying to take advantage her.

Happy to hear your other son does what he can to show his love for you. There are too many that have a parent, some both, still living when they are older themselves. There were several times I had to remind my wife how lucky she was to have her mother for over 90+ years.

My sincere wishes to you with "cutting cable". I hope your family soon realizes how lucky they are to have such a loving mother. ❤

Thank you John.  The one son that helps brought me dinner Sat that last until tomorrow. He travels 40 miles round trip and his wife was just operated on and he is taking care of her.  He does  not understand his brother, but we. don,t say anything..

My sister in Wa. Says your kids should kiss your feet, you are healthy and really independent which has worked against me, but I like to do for myself whatever I can.

I only asked this son because he will understand what they are telling me at the cable com.

That is wonderful about your wife Cindy,s mother living so long.

Thank you for wanting to help me.  You sound like a very nice man and I love reading your post.  Love your kitty stories.  I also know you were a good son and lost your mother too soon.

anyone who loves animals are great people in my book.

My dog is my best friend.

I always had cats and love them, but this dog  came to me and I had a cat at the time.  They were able to get along for a few years until my cat died.

thank you again for your kind words.

I will get back here after Sat and let everyone who has been kind here with the results. Take care. 😸

Well we went Sat and while I appreciate my son going, nothing was done.  The kid helping me did nothing, said he couldn't do anything.  We went to exchange the cable box and the kid said my cable box was the newest.  I told him I had it for five years.

So the trip was a wash, except, Comcast has a streaming box called,  Flex streaming, I think, I don't have my notes.  Well, it is free, and you can get the apps, hulu is free with it.  The  Internet is 20.00 a month.

I am waiting to make my decision, because i received a notice from comcast, if your income is below a certain amount, you can get 30.00 off your internet if your income qualifies.

So I applied for that today with the gov.  My income is way below, so I should qualify.

Also, not liking the answer I received from the kid at comcast.

Last night after 2 hours on the phone calling them, I finally got a rep. from them texing me, you can't get anyone to talk , so we texted for awhile and he gave me a 20.00 credit on my next bill and took off the 14.00 for the DVR, that I was going to be charged on my next bill.  I have documentation on everything he said.

He was very nice.  So, i got done what wasn't done by my going with my son to the site.

Also, the rep. on the tex, told me, my cable box needs to be updated, yet the kid at the site said, it was OK.

I spent two days on phones, and going to site, but got it done.

If I get the 30.00 a month discount on Internet, I will stay and also if I am satisfied with my next bill.

If not, I will return box and get the streaming box from them.

It's now a waiting period.

I knew, I had to investigate yesterdays decision further, so I spent from 7 to 8:30 on the phone texting with a rep.

My son was very surprised when I informed him of the results today.

He does not push for answers like I do.  I could not accept

nothing being done, but didn't want to embarrass him at the site, so waited till I was alone to get things done, which i should have done in the first place.  Thought son could help.

Will keep you updated.

Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving to you and your wife Cindy.

Sounds like you've been busy and have gotten something done. Hopefully when you get your next bill everything will be as you expect.

Re: Cutting Cable

I did the same thing with several friends of mine.  Does anyone know you can buy your own equipement and stop renting from Comcast?  I haven't rented either a router or modem for decades.  You need to use an approved device, call Comcast, give them the serial number and product name to have it entered into your account.  Once reported and approved, you'll get your internet without the $10-20 monthly rental fee.  I looked and there are several places to buy your own, Amazon is one, and they cost between $100-$200.  If you don't have a Internet ready TV, you have many choices to choose from.  I have Smart TVs and I also have Apple TVs to get online.

I had a bedroom/bathroom addition put on in 2020 and decided I didn't need cable TV in the room.  I bought a $50 antenna and the TV can connect to the internet.  I get almost all of the TV channels I need.  There are options out there if you know where and how to look.
