I think you are being paranoid.  No one is spying on you.  Why not do a system restore to a time before Windows 10 was installed?

How can you be sure that they aren't (spying)?  I didn't want W10 installed. I clicked the red X button to delete.  There wasn't an option to cancel; only to 'postpone'.   Also, what is a system restore?   And btw, when browsing into a local cab service, a day later their cab was out front and dropped into our mailbox three mini calendars.  There's an old saying: 'Even a true paranoid has real enemies'.......or something similar, lol.

The reason I recommended the GWX Control Panel program vs. System Restore is that MS will just continue downloading Win 10 once it starts via updates, @ROMARY . 

There's another thread that has been active for a few months with more info on the GWX program, if you want to peruse it. "FOX FOR MICROSOFT FORCED WINDOWS 10 INSTALL" . HTH's

Buying new equipment is one answer, of course, but I hate to see you do that prematurely when it isn't necessary.

On this morning's news: The driver-tester of a self-driving car was killed while testing the car.  Ran into a large semi-truck making a wide turn in front of the self driving car at an intersection.  Happened in April, I believe, but the news was just released.

Thanks, I'll give it a try today.  Having guests drop by for a few hours on their way to a destination.   Someone in one of those news articles mentioned Never10 or something similar........the tech author said that it's easier to install.  Obviously, I'm not familiar with much of anything electronic/tech.  Lots of us around here aren't, for whatever reason.

I am familiar with Never 10, and GWX Control Panel is rated better by the geeks.  It's very easy to install, if you follow the directions.  Good luck with it, @ROMARY .

Yes, GoKat is! I have been reading all of these posts with interest, as one of these days I want to work on my husband's Windows 8 laptop, but by the time that I do it, I don't think that Windows 10 will still be the automatic download that it is now. 

His laptop was having trouble connecting to the internet anyway, so it remains to be seen what will happen when I try and turn it on again at home.

I have been reading the posts on here, regarding the problems that people have been having with the installation of Windows 10 on their computers.

I wanted to address your comment that you made, regarding the Google product that you seemed to be thinking of, when you heard about it on TV? Perhaps it was a Google Chromebook?

My husband and I both use a Google Chromebook, and we really like using it. It has an antivirus program already built into it. 

A Chromebook is a netbook. It doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. You can't download any software to it, but you can use Google Apps. with it.

You can also use Google Docs. with it if you need to do any kind of office work with it, like any kind of word processing with it, for example. It doesn't cost anything to use that.

It doesn't use a Windows-based operating system, but rather its own operating system, called a Chromium-based operating system. 

It's a great computer for someone who basically wants to use the internet, check their e-mails, watch videos, and who may also want to use it for word processing and other office work. 

There are different manufacturers of Chromebooks, too. 

My husband has an Acer, and I have an HP. Ours our both pretty basic models, although he bought his before mine, so his is older than mine.

They come in different sizes and colors, and with different amounts of memory, too. 

The reason that we both got Chromebooks is because we just wanted to take a break from using Windows for now. We both made a choice to do that.

I didn't want to do the maintenance and the updates and the troubleshooting that Windows was requiring, so when our old Windows desktop stopped working, I decided to get a Chromebook too, instead of another Windows-based computer for myself.

Toppers:  Thank you!  I'll look into the Google Chromeback (or whatever you described.  I'll read it again and take notes.).  Yes, it sounds ideal.  I don't use my laptop for anything else.  Just check emails, look at all of the feeds that I've subscribed to, look up various topics that I'm interested in, etc., etc.  No banking, nothing office related.  Seriously, the word 'M....... 10' turns my tummy, lol.   Bad customer relations, imo.  Obviously MS hasn't taken any classes in Advertising.  Very counter-productive re: customer relations.  ............. As a side note, folks just don't realize that companies are able to track down anyone.  Just read the privacy policies.  Just this morning, we were looking at a local dealership site, checked off the 'No Thanks' box regarding receiving emails, phone calls, etc.  Guess what!  Yes, the dealership sent me an email on our other account (separate from my provider's non-working present troublesome email address). I had partially filled out the info they required for a quote, deleted it, checked the 'No Thanks' box, and they still sent me the email.   'Goes to show you' how much they know about people on the Internet.  We'll probably begin to get flyers/ads in my regular snail mail box, too.    Somewhere I wrote about the cab company dropping off mini calendars into my house mailbox, and all I did was just LOOK at their site.  Oh, well............that's life now-a-days.   Wishing us all good luck and safety, and we'll need it as the years go by.

restarting will not get rid of malware. you need to run your anti virus and  and protection you have. I find spybot search and destroy to work very well
