Thanks ahead of time for those who can help. This is on a second computer that my Husband normally uses. He used it last night no problems didn't change anything, didn't DL anything. Went to turn the screen on this morning and this is what's on the main page. (reminder, its running windowsXP, a gateway, about 8-9 years old) despite it's age it runs fairly quickly and has a lot of room. I know in terms of technology it's highly out of date but as I said it's simply a computer for my Husband to use to web surf and check email. We don't do anything high tech or fancy on this computer.
MESSAGE READS:
We apologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, started unexpectedly or automatically shut down to protect your files and folders choose last know good configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
If a previous start up attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed or if you aren't sure what caused the problem choose start windows normally.
(Below are 5 choices to select)
*Safe mode
*Safe mode with networking
*Safe mode with command prompt
*Last known good configuration with your most recent setting that worked
*Start windows normally.
They instruct to use your up and down keys to select your choice.
We selected first 'start windows normally' which flashed to the Gateway logo (normal when windows in loading. A blue screen with words quickly flashed behind it but it didn't stay on long enough to read. Second we choose 'Last known good configuration with your most recent setting that worked. Again quick blue screen with text flash but doesn't stay on long enough to read it. Last try we selected 'safe mode' (I've never had to use safe mode) but again it selected it, shows Gateway logo as if loading window, a little flashing cursor (normal) and a quick flash of a blue screen with words, can't read the screen. All choices appeared to start loading Windows, all had the quick cursor flash and all flashed a quick blue screen with words but then each time it would go back to the screen with the message I typed above "We apologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully", etc. We also tried a hard boot and it opens to the same screen and we can't get to anything else.
Anyone know what this is? Is it that dreaded 'blue screen' crash? Also my husband has automatic updates set to install automatically but I am not sure when the last update might have been, can't access anything. We also run anti malware and anti-virus so I don't believe it would be anything of that nature. I also don't believe it to be any odd issue of lack of space or room. This computer is primarily used for interest/email use only. I'm just stumped, never had this happen.
Thanks!
