I recently had to return 2 DVRs that we've had for years because they weren't working.  I also had to get a new modem because I have been having my internet dropped at times.  So we got the X1 4K box in the family room and a smaller box in the bedroom.  I think we could record 4 channels at one time and watch one.  These didn't work since my programs and my husband's ran into each other so I called comcast and they said they could bring another box and it would work on it's own in the bedroom.  I just had it put in today and it's picking up recordings from the family room box and my recordings in the bedroom are picked up on the family room box.  Is is possible to have two individual boxes that will not pick up each other's programs.  What was installed today hasn't fixed the problem.  Before I call Comcast I'd like to know if it's possible to have two separate boxes that would not interact with each other.  I was told by 3 people when I called a few weeks ago that it's possible.  Can anyone give me any information before I call and has anyone had the same problem.  My old boxes were old, they said ancient, but to me they were a lot better.

They forced us to get new boxes too. They never worked well at all.We eventually had to have their tec out to fix the problem. They tried to bill us for the visit too but we got that taken care of.We had no problems until they insisted that we had to upgrade. We don't record so I can't say if we would experience what you are talking about...hope you get it resolved but be sure when they say a tec is coming to make sure you won't get charged.

I didn't get charged for either visit.  The first time they came down to check the cable because my internet was disconnecting a lot. Have a large one story home and halfway down my hall the signal drops.  It's better now and I've kept the few dollars coverage every month to cover any problem with the cable.  The signal has been a problem since new homes were built a few blocks away.  300 homes and now more are being built.  I figured out that both the dvrs I have are in the cloud.  So far this month I've spent almost 3 hours on the phone trying to have this taken care of.  CS have been very good but when I have a question they have to ask someone else and that takes time and everyone gives me a different answer.

An easy fix would be to buy and install a repeater.  It's not uncommon in home to have areas where the internet signal doesn't work well.  Place a repeater in the area will boost the signal in the area where the signal is poor.

Another option would be to buy a different router.  As I posted in an earlier thread, I recently bought a new Linksys router and the improvement in the signal strength is significant.  I had coverage everywhere but, the signal was so weak.  If one device was downloading, no other wireless device could connect to the internet.

@kismet ......   I had Comcast for both my home and office.  Had awful problems for over a year ... especially in my office.  Comcast didn't seem to care at all. Every time  I called I informed them that if the issues were not resolved I was going to switch to Verizon FIOS.   Well I finally made the switch a couple months ago and couldn't be happier.   Now I get phone calls from Comcast asking me what they can do to make me happy and  begging me to go back.  I think I gave them more than enough time to make me happy!!

Why do you want the DVR boxes to be seperate - just curious.

We have one main DVR box and two smaller ones - we can watch all at the same time and watch three differrent programs.  I also have one tiny non-HD/non -DVR box that's totally seperate.

I had Comcast come down and they installed a different box for me.  My concern was not being able to record programs when my husband is recording.  The other night I purposely recorded 10 shows at a time.  I suppose you could say we have double the amount of recordings and each box works independently but works together.  The guy that came down was a contractor that works for Comcast and said it should work.  It's only been a few days so will see.  This box is 10. less than what they said they would put in so I said I'll try it.  My husband has the 4K box but doesn't have a 4K tv.  The other serviceman that worked for comcast said it was the best to try to bring in a better signal.  Also for my internet on the other side of the house he told me to put in a name for my internet and then put a -5 after it.  Said 5 may be able to pickup better than 2.4.  He did say we could get a repeater or a booster but make sure it has both the 2.4 and 5.  So will get that if things start to go downhill again.  FIOS is installed up our road but as far as I know no one on the road has it.  My daughter has DISH and we've tried it but too many trees and no reception.  Comcast did reduce our bill every month and gave us 3 months of Starz but I find it useless.  Won't continue it.

FranandZoe,

The reason for the two different boxes is that I want to record my shows and my husband wants to record his.  I had to take some of my shows out because it was a problem who was going to record what.  Before it only recorded 4 shows and watched one.  I watch more movies which run 2 hours so that was a problem with his one hour shows.  He's retired and watches tv all day.  I watch the news in the family room and that's it.  We originally had two separate boxes since we've had cable.  Never had a problem and each only recorded two shows at a time.  The boxes I returned were from 2013 and independent of each other.  It wasn't because I can see what he records and he can see what I record.  I just like having a choice like I always had.
