Comcast Digital Voice ~ Anyone have it?

I am thinking about going to Comcast Digital Voice and am not sure if I will have smooth sailing. I am presently with Verizon and I was told by someone that in 2014 all phone connections will be digital and the landline phone will be a thing of the past. I want to make the switch early. A friend told me to go to Vonage. I just don't know what to do. If I switch and I need to switch back I am told there is a fee for changing back to Verizon. Just what I need is another bill.
