I'm not a phone person, I have a cellphone pretty much for receiving and making calls and the occasional text. My phone barely gets used but it is about 5 years old. I had this phone as a Tracfone from HSN and got it unlocked where I took it to Mint Mobile ( which I'm satisfied with). My question is do I need to replace my phone because of its age even though it still works?

IMO, NO!  I use my cellphone like you do--rarely.  As long as I can make and receive calls and send occasional texts, I'm good.  I love the commercials that for $30/40/50 a month you can have a phone.  To me that's a lot of money monthly.  I got my Tracfone last June from HSN for $40 including 1200 minutes of calls/texts, whatever.  Works for me!

Eventually it will stop being able to receive updates and that could affect it. 5 years it a bit old.

I keep my phones forever. The only reason I replaced my old phone was because I dropped it too often and the casing started to come apart.

My current four year old phone fits my hand, fits my lifestyle, and does everything I want it to do.

I plan to keep it until I can no longer get the newest security updates for it.

The first thing I've always done with a new phone is go to Amazon or eBay and buy a substantial case for it in case it gets dropped.  There are some b pretty ones.

My phone is an iPhone, about 7-8 years old.  I know when I got it because it was a gift from my son who passed.  He gave it to me in 2018 and it was not brand new.  It was one that his company had given him and he dropped it and had some damage.  They gave him a new one.  He got this one fixed for me.  So it's about 8 years old. I have had it for 7 years.

If that's all you use your phone for @Jordan2 , you're ok until it stops making and receiving calls / texts.

@Jordan2.  Eventually they all brecom3 obsolete.  The manufacturer will quit supporting and updating your phone and you'll be advised that you'll no longer be able to make or receive calls.  Technology advances beyond your phone's capability.
