Cell phone issue

I have an T Phone6 with t mobile  NY area code and I often get calls from a friend in the UK he is using a phone with a NY area code.

3 out of 4 times the transmission is fine and the 4th time the call has gaps and at times he sounds like a robotic sound. I have tried everything.

I have called T Mobile several times and they have finally decided it might be my phone and are sending my a new phone.

Has any one experienced anything similar
