I have been using for many years as an extra back up. I stopped using them about 2018 as I no longer had/have my Windows PC. (I bought iMac and do/did not use Carbonite)
I requested my back up external hard drive from them.
I was a shocked at what their policies + prices are for me to obtain my external hard drive.
They sent to me and I got it today. Not sure what to do.

I wish I could help you @cbrite I stopped using the service because of the price and the fact that when you cancelled your information would be deleted after 30 days. I eventually purchased the ClickFree external hard drive for each of my computers. It was cheaper and I was in control of my information.

Thanks... I did use my own external hard drives too but worried I may have forgotten to back up something.... I have massive files.
My subscription expires Aug....so I requested their ex hard drive before they delete mine. 🥴

I guess I'll pay the fees/costs for 'non returned'.....

I'm sorry you have to pay...I think some of these companies don't disclose all of the necessary information...especially about the final costs of using their products. That is just too much for a service...it seems as if they catered mostly to businesses that don't mind paying those high fees and not individuals. This is also another reason I don't store information using cloud services.

Are you saying you have no other backup of your data? How much would it cost to retrieve your data and put it on your Mac? I don't have Carbonite but, I would think there is an option to put the data back on your hard drive.
I use Apple iCloud and multiple external hard drives to backup or save my data. I would encourage you to do the same. Having only external hard drives won't help if your house burns to the gournd or suffers a natural disaster. So, off site storage is needed. Some people store external drives in their safe deposit box. But, hard drives can fail for no apparent reason and shouldn't be your only copy.
I've been having problems with my iMac, it's working for now, and know how quickly a computer can stop working. Good luck.

I have used Carbonite for years. Most of the cloud services are priced for business customers. You should look for a work around or just pay for data storage.

My iMac is about a year old. Yes, I do have external back up drives for all my previous Windows. They easily, thru my usb port on my dock, plug into my iMac and I can retrieve what I want / need. Neat and easy access. That is what I hoped for with Carbonite's. Thanks to all who answered.
