Camera and Memory Card Help!!

I have an issue and I hope someone can help me solve it. I bought a Kodak Easyshare Z915 from QVC 26 months ago and I liked the Camera,that is until today. I took pictures of my Daughter and Grankids who live 5 hors away. I took a picture upon leaving and all of the sudden the Camera said reformatt and I didn't want to do that because I can't lose the photo's. I shut the Camera down and once Home I had my Son try to get the data off the Camera which we tried in his Samsung Camera which didn't work. We then put my SD card from my Camera and can't get the Data off the memory card which was used in my Kodak. My Son says he thinks the data on my card can be retrieved but he is not sure how. We also tried putting the card in our Computors but it don't come up. I called some Data people and they say if it can be retrieved off the card two estimates range from 150.00 to 1200.00. This is ridiculous.{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown} Has anyone had this problem and a solution?

P.S I bought the Canon TSV and was told to try putting my old memory card in my new camera I wonder will this work?
