Re: Are any of you using an HDTV Antenna for local channels?

I did something right, I have one channel this morning!  I think, maybe the remote was not working correctly.  The TV has been sitting for a couple of years.

One channel will do.  It is in the guest bedroom and I have a DVD player with it.

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions.  They surely helped!

Re: Are any of you using an HDTV Antenna for local channels?

I have antennas on 2 digital TVs (no cable).  I get different channels on each of them - the antennas face different directions.  Sometimes the reception is weather dependent.  If it's rainy or windy I get fewer channels.  Or they pixelate and freeze. Also get different channels in the morning than in the evening sometimes.  Our house is about 30 miles from the local stations. And I have 3 or 4 different antennas, the newest is supposed to be for 50 miles.  We also stream from the laptop via HDMI cable and use a Roku and Firestick.  But the antenna reception is very random!

I still have a vintage TV hooked to a converter box (and a VCR!).  Since it has a built in tuner and rabbit ears it gets great reception and lots of channels.

Glad you figured out your issue.

Yes, I bought the 1 byone earlier this year. Since I couldn’t find the owners manual for my tv, I went online and downloaded it.

I followed the directions that came with the antenna. In less than 15 minutes, I had around 30 new channels to watch. I didn’t have to buy anything additional for it to work.

Screw the antenna end into the TV antenna in.  Select your menu.  Find external inputs and select Antenna.  Then find n the menu the Channel Search feature and let it scan for channels.  Wish you were close I have done this for a number of friends.  Good luck.

@ZhillsCan't tell whether you have a leaf or a more conventional antenna.  If the latter spread them and then scan for channels.  If you don't get many.  Turn the antenna say 45 degrees and scan again.  Make sure that you switch the antenna amplifier to the on position before you scan for channels.

Thanks @Shawnie.  When I first tried, I could not get the Channel Scan.  I think the remote was not working correctly.  It had sat for a couple of years.  The next day, I got it to work and not I have several channels.

Thanks for your suggestions.  They worked!

Re: Are any of you using an HDTV Antenna for local channels?

We cut the cable cord in January and couldn't be happier. And an OTA picture is FAR superior to any other. We have generic flat antennas for both our TVs and get 36 channels. They're both non-amplified, too, because I don't want to use another power source, plus, there's no difference in channels received (check online). I knew, Zhills, that you'd ultimately get channels; it's most unusual not to, even in certain terrains. Be sure to re-scan regularly, once you know what the "max" in your area is, as they're constantly launching OTA channels in new markets. When we re-scanned June 1, we got 3 new channels, including "Decades," which I LOVE!

One thing I don't understand.  When I scan, the TV screen shows "scanning for analog channels."  It is an HDTV antenna.  Why is it scanning analog?

It is the TV that is scanning for channels not the antenna.

This TV is an older one, so it's not HDTV?  That would make sense.  Never thought of that!

I am getting 1 local channel, several channels I have never seen before with old programs and I have a DVD player hooked up to it.  It is in my extra bedroom and that is really enough!  Surely beats having another Direct TV receiver that would just be used occasionally!

Thanks everyone.
