I have noticed lately that I have been getting more of these annoying calls. So much that I thought my DO NOT CALL registration must have been cancelled.
Just yesterday, I went online and put my info. in there again. But as some of you say, it's not working.
Guess I'll just have to start screening because it makes me furious to get up and answer the phone--then they don't speak right away! I'm saying, "hello, hello, hello" before they speak.

Always screen your calls

I just don't understand why people still choose to have a landline phone and then continue to complain about the unwanted calls they receive. We only have our cell phones and my life has been made soooo much easier! I get absolutely NO unwanted calls whatsoever. I never get political calls, I never get any peddlers calling me. Never. Why go through life with such annoyances? I just don't get it.

the problem we have had around here is that now some of these scammers are buying local number of people who have moved. So the caller id comes up with an actual name and their local number. So it looks like someone in your city is calling you. So caller ID is no longer reliable and call blockers don't work.
We are on the no call. These people don't care because they can't be traced. frustrating. I don't answer but they keep calling.
(Edited to add that since my husband is a minister, getting local calls from people we don't know is very common. )

And that is why I got rid of my LAN line. Cell only for me!

With all due respect, it doesn't matter that you understand, it's a choice those of us who still have landlines choose to make. For me it's a matter of convenience, I'm not married to my cell phone and I don't want to live with it in my hand or pocket.
The issue here is that having a land line and not being bothered by telemarketers are not mutually exclusive, they should be able to co-exist and yet they can't anymore because of people who think it's ok to invade other people's privacy with messages that they have no interest in hearing or worse yet, with messages that are duplicitous in nature and designed to rob you of your money. I will not be inconvenienced by giving up my land line just because other people don't respect the fact that I have one. Little by little in this country we are being made to change what's good for us individually just to suit the needs of people who have no right to cause that change and wherever possible that I can avoid accommodating myself to the indiscriminate will of others, I will.

Wow, that was ugly! Many people have to have landlines.
We have two - one is used for phone calls and the alarm system. The other is for our DSL.
Like Maria, I'm not tied to a cellphone 24/7 and wouldn't want to have to give out my cellphone number to everybody anyway. That just leads to telemarketing and other unsolicited calls on the cell phone too. I had to block texting because, even though I don't give my cell phone number out to many, I was getting spam texts on it. (talk about infuriating, and costly) They had to be robocalls because I've never used my cellphone number for ANY kind of business purpose.

I occasionally get both telemarketing calls AND telemarketing text messages on my cell phone. Not as many calls as on my landline, but it does happen.
I keep the landline because cell phones do not work when the electricity goes out. I never answer it unless I am 100% sure who is calling. The caller can leave a voice mail if it is important.
I never expected the Do Not Call list to be effective. The government does not have the resources to enforce it. Telemarketers have been handed a national data base on a silver platter. All the work is done for them and they have nothing to fear if they use it.

Thank you all SO much! Wow, did I get good information. I do get these scam calls on my cell phone as well--but not a dozen a day like the landline!
I knew I'd get good advice here.

Do not call registry is useless. (most of my calls come to my home phone but are now coming to my cell. New tactic... calling me by my first name. If it is a robo call I simply hang up. If it is a real person, THEY ARE IN FOR THE RIDE OF THEIR LIFE. I GIVE THEM ALL I GOT TO KEEP THEM ON, CONFUSED, WHATEVER. I PRACTICE A COMEDY ACT or something like that. My record time on the phone with them is now up to 30 minutes. Heck I am retired and need a diversion.
