Any thoughts on the hp Instant Ink program?

I can't figure out if it's any good deal or not. Has anyone actually joined & tried it?

I brought a new HP 7640 printer in July. I signed up for the program. The company sends you a Welcome Kit with ink for your printer. I  signed up for the 50 page program at $2.99 a month. I just started to use the Black ink in November. I had one free month, and will have to start paying in December. If I brought ink for this printer, it would cost about 72 dollars.

This program is difficult to stop once you signup. Please go out and read about the program online.

If you are buying a inexpensive printer, I would not buy the program.

I'm giving up on inkjet and going with a laser printer. They've come down a ton in price and seem like a much better deal to me now. I've got a Samsung laser printer coming tomorrow that cost less than $50. Samsung even has a color laser printer now for $89. I don't do a lot of printing so the inkjet inks tend to dry up on me and then I have to waste half the ink to clean the print head.

@gardenman

Good idea to get a laser printer.  I have an old HP LaserJet my son gave me over 3 years ago (it was used when he gave it to me).  I did have to buy a new cartridge which cost about $100 but that was a couple of years ago and it's still working fine.  Mine is black & white only but it suits my needs.

I don't print a lot--maybe 30 sheets a month and I was having issues with the ink jet printers drying up, too.  Hope you enjoy your laser printer.

We have three inkjet printers, and love them.  We are on the instant ink program, and really like it.  We don't have to worry about running out of ink, and it is a lot cheaper than going down to buy the cartridges.  I have never had a problem with the ink drying up.  We do a lot of copying, and we are on the 300 page and 100 page programs.  This ink program was a life saver for me and my husband.  Love it.

I gave up on inkjet printers several years ago.  I have no need to print in color.  I've had a Brother laser printer for several years now, and it works great.  I get a higher capacity printer cartridge and it lasts a long time.  Changing the cartridges is actually easier than it was on my old inkjet printers.  I've only had to change the laser print drum once and that was no problem.

I was surprised to see how inexpensive laser printers had become. Even color laser printers can now be bought for under $90. It had been a couple of years since I'd last looked at them and the cheap ones were still over $200 then. I paid around $49 for my new Samsung laser printer and it's great, so far anyway. My inkjet printers were always having an issue of some sort, so I was looking for alternatives and I was pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive laser printers were now.
