Re: Antivirus and antieverything

@I am still oxox

I also have an Apple, but it's a  desk top.

True it doesn't get viruses, but it sure can get malware and the one I downloaded was a doozie! and  pernicious.

I eventually bought a new desk top because of it. However, the other computer was rather old, and I am glad that I have the latest one.

I am now more than paranoid after that awful experience.

If that happens I call Apple and they walk me through the removal of the Malware, I have gotten that also

On the search for a new antivirus protection program. l've been using Norton for years but it seems every few weeks, they're coming up with more protection services for, of course, "just a few dollars a month more". Wondering if there is another program that wouldn't be so bad but still with good coverage. My computer has Windows Defender but I turned it off because of Norton. I also am a subscriber to Microsoft 365. I just have a feeling that I'm paying for something I already have. I was told by a computer tech years ago that there were many free programs that were just as complete as Norton. Suggestions for a very untech savvy person?

@Carolina925

We used Norton years ago. DH didn't like it. He said it made the computer run slower.

We have been using Windows Defender since it came with Windows free. We got Malwarbytes free long ago. They have never changed that on us. I know they charge now.

You can uninstall Norton so you can turn on Windows Defender.

If you try to run both at the same time they will compete with each other.

Re: Antivirus and antieverything

@Nightowlz , thanks so much. With the responses received here, I'm thinking about going with the Windows Defender. With so many scammers out there now, I just hope I'm making the right decision. I'm just no longer satisfied with what Norton is offering and, I agree with your husband, it seems to bog down my system badly.

I use a VPN service which offers everything I need...antivirus, ad blocker, VPN, ID breach alerts, credit card breach alerts and I have the option to change my internet name/location (ip address/my name).
