Even though I have an iPhone 5s and don't think I have that much on it, evidently I do b/c I can't download the latest iOS 8. It looks like one of the largest things on my phone is my texts. I'd hate to lose them b/c some contain some great pics.
Is there an easy way to save my texts to a folder on my iMac??? I do mean easy - I'm not a computer wonk by any stretch of the imagination!!!
TIA

Is there an easy way to do that? Do I have to go thru each and every text for the last two years and find every photo that was ever sent to me?? So I pick one sister's texts and keep scrolling.... then I do the next for my other sister....then each and every co-worker.
There has GOT to be an easier way....

You can also synch your phone with your computer.

Not to be nosy or question your descisions
why are you saving your texts?
Oh I see you want the pictures, then you need to save them to your camera roll.
As for the new OS, I am waiting it out till the updates are fixed.
so save the pictures you want to your camera roll
delete the text messages
back up your phone to your computer
then you will be ready to update the operating system

In order to see and enjoy those photos sent to you over the past 2 years you would have to go back and scroll through all those messages anyway.....right? Well, just set aside some time for looking at all those photos...just like you would for flipping through a photo album in the old days.....and as you come across one you want to keep, follow these instructions:
http://www.askdavetaylor.com/save_photos_from_text_messages_on_an_iphone/
Then, back those photos up to your computer using iTunes. Burn the ones you absolutely DO NOT want to lose to CD or some other back up system.
Just yesterday my very best friend was showing me some pictures of her grandchildren taken on her Samsung phone. I casually asked if she had those backed up since I know they don't take traditional film pictures anymore. She said, "they're on my phone -- why would I need to back them up".
Sigh.
Back up your pictures! I'll say that again. Back up your pictures!!!
Many of today's children will never have pictures of their youth because their parents have not saved pictures taken on digital devices and have never printed any pictures of their children while they were growing up.

I think you eventually have to get rid of those texts on the phone anyway. On my Verizon android devices I think the max number of texts for each person was 200. If there were more the older ones must have been automatically deleted.
Does your phone work a lot slower than it did when it was new? One reason is all those text messages. I was told they take up space and slow you down. Once I delete them my phone worked almost like new again.
I want to repeat that I have Android phones and my carrier is Verizon. Your situation may be different.
I TOTALLY AGREE that if you want to keep your pictures you should put them on the camera roll AND back up the camera roll regularly to another device. Clear most pics out of your phone too because they take up a lot of space and slow it down. There's a lot of cloud storage available where you can keep photos to access anytime you want without storing them on the actual phone. And then you can access them from any device. You can even use Facebook and set it up with privacy settings so nobody but you can access them. I'm sure others in this forum can suggest something else too.

One neat feature of iOS 8 is that you can see all the pictures sent to you (and the ones you have sent to them) from particular people. To see them, click on the Details button in the top right corner of the Message window.
BUT.....you have to upgrade to iOS 8 to see those consolidated in one place.
