Yep, you're the only one lol. I use the map app all the time. It's very nice to have the ability to look up what's nearby me, or find another store while I'm already out since I'm new to this area. The number one reason I have a phone with a data plan.

I'm not on my phone all the time when I'm out and about, but I certainly appreciate having it with me and having the ability to use it when necessary.

In addition to what others have posted about how they use it, I also do price checks, look up reviews on products if something catches my eye. The alarm feature keeps me sane and keeps me on time with picking up grandkids from school, sports etc as well as meds on time for my old dogs.

Having the mapping feature has helped many folks out who have asked if I know where such and such is or how to get someplace. Often I don't know, but I can look it up and show them the map and directions.

Everyone is different and those who don't like the technology are just fine. I do find it funny though that somehow folks feel the need to diminish those who choose to use it as much as I find it sadly funny when techies attempt to diminish those who don't.

It's obviously a mini computer source for trivia and information finding and I use it as such. That's one of the reasons that I'm hoping to get rid of my "extra" iPad when the "big" iPhone comes out. I also text much more often on my phone than I make actual audio "phone" calls. Definitely a multi usedevice for me. If it weren't I wouldn't own it.

violann,

A couple of new features that I'm looking forward to in the new iPhone is the ability to send audio messages to other iPhone users using the Messages app.....works just like texting but with the addition of your voice.

Family sharing will allow up to 6 people to share music, photos, movies, books, apps, calendars, etc. without having to log on to the same Apple ID. That's been one thing that Apple needed to implement for years!

I'm also interested in investigating the new sharing features between Macs, using the new Yosemite OS, and iOS devices. Lots of new things to learn -- excited!

Here's a link to the new iOS 8 features:

I've been able to do that for years with my tracfones - one an LG and the other Samsung Galaxy Centura as text messages to anyone's phone not matter what kind! Nothing new and great about that!! Strange that iPhones were not able to do that!

The option to send voice memos through iMessage has been available for a couple of years. I believe iOS will just make it a bit quicker, with no need to do it via the Voice Memo app.

I am 59 and I don't have a smart phone. My phone takes calls and could text if I was not so thrifty. I takes really lousy photos that you would never want to send to anyone which the phone cannot do....I find it irritating when I am with friends and their phones sit on the table and they are constantly looking at them or answering text. I think it is rude. Does anyone remember the day when we would answer calls when we got home after listening to the answering machine, sometimes I miss those days.

I love my Samsung Note 3. I use mine for work. It reminds me when we need to make store deliveries. I use the calendar for appointments. I used the GPS recently to find the hospital where my new grandson was born. I used the calculator all day today for doing bookwork. I also do fun things on it. While DH is driving I play Words With Friends or Wordfeud. I can still visit with DH and play that type of game easily. I can read with my Kindle app at the gym.

Uses are numerous. Just because I love mine doesn't mean you have to have any part of it. Just don't think it is ridiculous for me to have this phone. It is very useful for me.

I wish DH would text. It would make communication so much easier while we are both working. That way I wouldn't bother him. I'm talking about texting for work, not just for fun. He won't do it. So I have to call him and then he acts like I'm bothering him since he has to answer the phone while on a ladder, etc. Oh well.....It would be to HIS benefit.
