I just noticed tonight, Alexa reads books aloud from your Kindle Library.

Thank you so much for the info. I knew you could play audible books through her, but didn't know she would read text to speech.
I just tested it and it is better than the Kindle Fire HDX text to speech.
The only glitch (might be my fault, don't know) is that she started a new book and didn't continue with the one I am currently reading. Not sure how to fix that.
I'll do my research on it.
Thank you!

Ok, I got it. I had to go to my app and get to the right place by selecting Now Playing and then Queue.
Cool! Thanks!

She will now also tell you which movies are playing at your favorite theaters...

Alexa is a very cool device. Amazon is connecting us to more of the products they own.

Great thread, @Nuttmeg!
For those interested, this feature has been available on iPads and iPhones for a few years, too (Kindle, iBooks, etc.).
This is one fairly recent article with the "how-to" info:

That feature has also been on both the Kindle HD and Kindle HDX for a few years. The reason it is so great is that Alexa's speaker is very loud and clear. She is much easier to hear and understand even if you are clear across the room.

This has to be the best new feature added to Echo. I use it constantly. I can have the books read out while I knit or do housework.
While the Kindle will read them out to you and you can put your books on an MP3, I prefer the Echo. My ENT also reminded me not to wear earbuds constantly and I feel a bit better using a radio to listen to books. You can increase or decrease the volume by simply asking Alexa for "volume level X" where X is 1 to 10.
